Meet Tanya Ward from Netball Queensland
As we are taking a break from Netball thanks to Covid-19 we thought we would take the opportunity to introduce you to some people in the greater netball community. Many of us already know Tanya from our Interdistrict Carnival. Tanya is the Delivery Network Lead for Queensland Netball for not only Darling Downs, but also Metro South, Western Corridor, Lockyer Valley and South Burnett. So she gets to meet a lot of people but we thought we would take some time to get to know her.
So Tanya has kindly agreed to be the first cab off the rank to take part in the HDNA Fast 5. Every person who takes part will have to answer five random questions so we find out something different about them that not everyone else would know.
1. Favourite Netball Player of All Time ?
Liz Ellis- I met her twice! A year apart the first time I shook her hand at the Melbourne Fast Five & told her how wonderful she was and how much I loved her on the radio as well as the court, it really was embarrassing now I think of it. It took me another year before I had a chance to get a photos with Liz and no she did not remember me from the year before and there slight distance she puts between us is obvious in the photo. Evidence attached
2. Of course Netball is my first, second and third favourite sport but if I had to watch another sport it would be ?
The tour De France. There is something meditative about sitting up late watching athletes pushing their bodies to the limit through some of the most countryside in the world.
2. Most undervalued position on a Netball Court ?
WD- just defence I think not the position is all ever that court working hard at attack too. I have been known to be called a “decent WD” in my time, high praise indeed.
3. My favourite comfort food is ?
Lemon Meringue, but don’t always wait until comfort is needed. One of my favourite recipes can be found here
4. A quote I always think about when things get tough ?
"Every morning, it’s a fresh start. We get a chance to be different. A chance to change. A chance to be better."
5. If I could say one thing to the Highfields Netball Community what would it be ?
You are a family and in tough times you can depend on each other for support, to laugh with, to play with, and to share the challenges and rewards with. And as part of the Netball Queensland family we will get through this together.
